Orthodontic treatment has no age limit!
However, jaw strength and facial structure change as you age. Teeth erupt at a certain age and they will change and move over time. This affects the duration, complexity, cost and type of treatment required.
There are generally four stages in Orthodontic treatment:
- Early examination
- Early treatment
- Adolescent treatment
- Adult treatment
Early Examination
Port Macquarie Orthodontics strongly recommends that your child undergoes early examination at the age of between 7 and 8. This allows us to examine and detect any potential jaw problems and plan potential future treatments.
Early Treatment (7 to 11 years old)
When adult teeth start to erupt, several gum and teething problems usually follow. Crossbite, crowding, tipping of teeth, narrow dental arches, ectopic eruption, extreme gingival recession are among the most common problems. Early orthodontic treatment is necessary to correct these permanently, and to prevent more serious problems from occurring in the future.
Adolescent Treatment (12 to 19 years old)
Undergoing adolescent orthodontic treatment allows for permanent solutions to any occurring teeth and jaw problems. Usually involving braces or other orthodontic appliances, teens from 12 to 19 years old can have perfectly aligned teeth after undergoing our treatment procedures.
Adult Treatment
Because braces are not only for children and adolescents, adults can also choose to undergo orthodontic treatment. Whether you are in your 30s, 40s, 50s, or even in your 60s, you can benefit from orthodontic treatment and achieve the perfect smile you have always dreamed of.
